Today in Language Arts class we talked about Debra Lekanoff and her quotes. One quote that I think was really brilliant was, “I am clearing branches for you but I am leaving some so you can be challenged as well.”

Sometimes you just need to challenge yourself and others because if you don’t, you wont get anywhere. You wont, in gamer terms, level up. And especially, you won’t improve. If you don’t challenge others, you wont see their true potential, and you wont help them either.

Another quote from her is, “Keep yourself grounded, do your required work but also find something that you love whether that is looking at birds, making things, or for me it was staying involved with my culture.”

I think that it is important to take a break from work and school. If you don’t limit yourself to work you’ll just go on and on and on. Which is not healthy. You need to take a moment to do something that you love or else you’ll get lost in the world of work and sadness. People think the American dream is to have a good house and a good family and a good job. But to some people, “a good job” is going to the office, sitting in a cubicle without any natural light and typing numbers all day. Sure, you might come home to a barbeque in the back yard. But wouldn’t you want to spend your day playing the violin, or working with animals, or making a watch and then come home to a nice barbeque? But even if you have to work in a tiny cubicle, you need to take a break to do something you love. And lunch breaks aren’t acceptable just because you like sandwiches or something. Lunch breaks can be acceptable if you’re making the lunch because you love cooking. But otherwise you need to get out and run because you love running, or go and paint because you love painting, or get out your flute and play the flute because you love playing the flute, or get a pad and pencil and write because you love writing. Love isn’t just romance, it’s passion, and appreciation, and not just for people, but for things.
